National Geographic is currently holding its annual photo contest, with the deadline for submissions coming up on November 30.  Last year they received more than 16,000 contest entries submitted by photographers from 130 countries. Three categories will be judged: people, places, and nature.  Images should accurately reflect the captured moment in time.  The Grand Prize Winner will receive $10,000 and a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar in January 2012.

For the past nine weeks, the society has been gathering and presenting galleries of submissions, encouraging readers to vote. Check out the editors’ favorites or view every photo entered.

MAX100 Project

Kickstarter is cool.  It’s allowing things to get funded that never would have seen the light of day before now.  Combine that with really effective print techniques that allow professional results in small quantities, and you have MAX100.  Started as a project by North Carolina artist Matt Stevens, his obsession with the Nike Air Max 1 has manifest itself in this upcoming book release.  Gotta like the $150 option that includes the plywerk print, limited signed edition book with slipcase, poster and your name incorporated into the donor shoe illustration.  He’s about $27K to his $30K goal with funding ending July 23rd.  I’m just hoping he doesn’t get sued by Nike before it ships!

So reach out to your Japanese friends soon as this probably won’t last long.

P.X.A. Basketball Tournament Milan

The PXA BBall Tourney first began in Paris in July 2009, when Nike AM1 asked POK (Pain ‘O Chokolat) and BKRW (Black Rainbow) to host a 3×3 men & women basketball tournament.  Since then, the tournament has made stops in Amsterdam and Berlin. Later this month, P.X.A makes its way to Milan, taking place on the Courtyard of Parco Sempione on May 28, 2011. In conjunction with SlamJam, Pigalle and Nike Stadium Milan, P.X.A. has become more than just a hoops tourney, and is now recognized as more of an industry get together bringing about a fashionable creative pool of influencers from the street culture family. My brother and I are scheduling tryouts for our 2012 squad.
