If I didn’t have prior obligations this week, I’d be in Miami livin the good life at Art Basel. One of the first things I’d do when I got there is pay a visit to the Wynwood Walls, located within Miami’s bustling Wynwood Arts District. For one thing, it’s Free! But more importantly, it features works by some of the best graffiti artists out there. This year’s roster of artists involved include: Aiko, Christian Aww, Cope, Shepard Fairey, Futura, Faille, Gaia, Invader, Jeff Soto, Kenny Scharf, Nunca, Retna, Ron English, Sego, Swoon and more.

Classic by Jonathan Mannion: Art Basel Miami – Presented by Reebok

In collaboration with Reebok Classics, crazy talented photographer Jonathan Mannion, will be showing a unique exhibition of his work during Art Basel Miami 2011.  Having been given his first big break many years ago by Heavy D, Mannion has gone on to shoot virtually every major hip-hop artist and rapper, including the large majority of album covers for Jay-Z. Aptly entitled, “CLASSIC” the exhibit will showcase a wide array of Mannion’s most celebrated and recognizable work with many of the hip-hop industry’s past and present icons. The four-day exhibition will also feature a special collaborative series of illustrated photographs and prints that Mannion created alongside artists such as Rick Ross, Rakim, Fat Joe, Mos Def, Fabolous, and Ja Rule.  From what I am told, all proceeds will from sales are going to charity.  Below is shot I took at JM’s studio a few months ago.

National Geographic is currently holding its annual photo contest, with the deadline for submissions coming up on November 30.  Last year they received more than 16,000 contest entries submitted by photographers from 130 countries. Three categories will be judged: people, places, and nature.  Images should accurately reflect the captured moment in time.  The Grand Prize Winner will receive $10,000 and a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar in January 2012.

For the past nine weeks, the society has been gathering and presenting galleries of submissions, encouraging readers to vote. Check out the editors’ favorites or view every photo entered.

Lil Snob by Highsnobiety

Living in NYC with a baby on the way, I’ve been on the hunt for blogs and sites that I can go to for kids gear and street fashion.  Yesterday I came across a beta site for Lil Snob.  Connected in some way to Highsnobiety, a blog I frequent for my own taste in products, this site is a direct hit with what I’ve been looking for.  I of course want to make sure my little lady has the most up to date toys and freshest kicks, like the Nike Leopard Print Little Winter Jogger Boots shown here.  Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?  Let me know at citifiable@gmail.com.

NFL x M&M’s

Thought this was cool when I saw it today – M&M’s has partnered with the NFL, giving customers the ability to create custom color M&M’s stamped with their favorite team logos.  There’s even custom team dispensers.  Now that the season is back on, snap some up now for your opening day BBQ.  We recommend the Steelers of course.

Nike Bowery Stadium ‘The Wave’

Nike Bowery Stadium, one of my all time favorite marketing concept shops, recently unveiled “The Wave”, a surf/skate installation based around their summer ‘Just Do It’ action sports campaign. The retail component of Stadium reflects surf and skate culture featuring a curated selection of Nike action products. Stadium MFG offers the opportunity to customize core products from the Nike Range, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, board shorts and other apparel. Collections of skate and surf stickers are displayed to provide inspiration and share the history of East Coast surf/skate culture. Throughout the ‘Just Do It’ summer season, Stadium will host special programming including lectures, live musical performances, film screenings, product launches, and mentoring workshops. Weekly film showings will balance classic surf and skate movies with Nike team flicks. Celebrating the local surf and skate community, Stadium aims to deliver a culturally creative point of view and an interesting twist on product, performance, innovation and design. The 25 Best Rooftop Bars in New York

Posted in Life with tags , , , on June 29, 2011 by Citifiable

Complex recently dropped The 25 Best Rooftop Bars in New York. I don’t go out like I used to, but I know I always enjoy a dope roof-deck bar to sip cocktails and spectate. This list is pretty legit, especially considering I’ve lived here for 6+ years and haven’t been to many of them…or even knew they existed. I was happy to see two new Williamsburg based roof-top hotspots as I live here now, but this area is already blowing up way too fast. Check it out.
