LA Noire

Rockstar Games, the publisher responsible for the best open-world console games like last year’s huge hit Red Dead Redemption and some game called Grand Theft Auto (nice official site!), just released their latest masterpiece, LA Noire.  Inspired by 50’s-60’s era film noir cop thrillers, I’d compare this to getting to play your own version of LA Confidential, which is pretty fucking sweet.  Production values are really high too – they used MotionScan tech to capture all the actor’s faces with amazing detail.  It also became the first game to be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival after spending almost 7 years in production.  The chaos is a bit more controlled than GTA though since you do play a detective, and there are some investigative elements too.  Even my wife thinks it looks cool which means I’m going to have her back-seat gaming for hours until she falls asleep on the couch – c’est la vie.

DJ Skee was making mixtapes with artists like Jay-Z long before mixtapes could get you nominated for a Grammy.  His production company Skee.TV makes some of the best hip-hop music videos out there and he’s on KIIS 102.7 Sunday nights in LA with his very influential new music show.  He’s also one of the hardest working and nicest guys in the business too.  In the last couple weeks Skee released two outstanding new mixtapes, Purp and Partron from The Game and Puff Puff Pass from Snoop Dogg.  You can download them both for free from the attached links.

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo has officially launched the site for their upcoming 3DS and confirmed a release date of March 27.  I got to see this thing at E3 last year and it was very impressive, delivering a surprisingly solid 3D experience with no glasses.  They have a nice slate of launch titles and a bunch more coming by Christmas.  Only downside is the estimated 3-5 hours of battery life.  $250 is definitely a lot more than Nintendo handheld gamers are used to paying, but these will be very hard to get a hold of throughout 2011 nonetheless.  Get your pre-orders in now if you want to get your hands on one!
