Later this week I’ll be making my yearly pilgrimage to downtown LA for E3. Gametrailers posted this video today previewing the big show June 7-9 at the LA Convention Center.  This year is promising to be one of the biggest yet with Nintendo announcing Wii2/Project Cafe (now rumored to support Blu-Ray), Sony announcing the NGP (now Vita?), and Activision previewing their paid Call of Duty Elite subscription service.  More pix to come starting with the Sony Press Event Monday, June 6th!

Posted in Video Gaming with tags , , on April 15, 2011 by Citifiable

Multiple sources have now reported that Nintendo will reveal a new console at or before E3 this coming June. Code named Project Cafe, reliable reports are saying the system will run games in HD finally, which is something that has plagued the Wii since release.  You can see the translated link to the original french story here.  Some other rumors being reported state the system is more powerful than the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 and will be backwards compatible with the current Wii software. Supposedly it will also feature an all new controller with a touch screen. The system is rumored to launch at the end of 2012. Stay tuned to our coverage of E3 coming up in June for more details.

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo has officially launched the site for their upcoming 3DS and confirmed a release date of March 27.  I got to see this thing at E3 last year and it was very impressive, delivering a surprisingly solid 3D experience with no glasses.  They have a nice slate of launch titles and a bunch more coming by Christmas.  Only downside is the estimated 3-5 hours of battery life.  $250 is definitely a lot more than Nintendo handheld gamers are used to paying, but these will be very hard to get a hold of throughout 2011 nonetheless.  Get your pre-orders in now if you want to get your hands on one!

Rage and Infinity Blade for iPhone

Posted in Video Gaming on January 20, 2011 by Citifiable

It’s amazing how far mobile gaming has come.  The iPhone 4 in particular has become the biggest gaming platform on the planet, drawing the attention of two of the world’s best developers.

Rage from legendary FPS developer id (Doom, Quake) is a first-person-rail-shooter.  The Zombie carnage gameplay looks amazing and has a control system that makes it easy to play.  It doesn’t have a huge amount of depth but admittedly is a precursor to the upcoming Rage console release coming this fall.

Infinity Blade is from another legendary FPS developer, Epic Games (Unreal, Gears of War) and their Chair development studio.  What’s amazing is that it runs a version of the Unreal 3 engine which is used in many XBox 360 and PS3 games.  It does a nice job delivering console-quality graphics with mobile-appropriate gameplay.  Leveling up your character is addictive and gameplay is fun and intuitive.
