If I didn’t have prior obligations this week, I’d be in Miami livin the good life at Art Basel. One of the first things I’d do when I got there is pay a visit to the Wynwood Walls, located within Miami’s bustling Wynwood Arts District. For one thing, it’s Free! But more importantly, it features works by some of the best graffiti artists out there. This year’s roster of artists involved include: Aiko, Christian Aww, Cope, Shepard Fairey, Futura, Faille, Gaia, Invader, Jeff Soto, Kenny Scharf, Nunca, Retna, Ron English, Sego, Swoon and more.

In collaboration with Reebok Classics, crazy talented photographer Jonathan Mannion, will be showing a unique exhibition of his work during Art Basel Miami 2011.  Having been given his first big break many years ago by Heavy D, Mannion has gone on to shoot virtually every major hip-hop artist and rapper, including the large majority of album covers for Jay-Z. Aptly entitled, “CLASSIC” the exhibit will showcase a wide array of Mannion’s most celebrated and recognizable work with many of the hip-hop industry’s past and present icons. The four-day exhibition will also feature a special collaborative series of illustrated photographs and prints that Mannion created alongside artists such as Rick Ross, Rakim, Fat Joe, Mos Def, Fabolous, and Ja Rule.  From what I am told, all proceeds will from sales are going to charity.  Below is shot I took at JM’s studio a few months ago.

Three categories will be judged: people, places, and nature.  Images should accurately reflect the captured moment in time.  The Grand Prize Winner will receive $10,000 and a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar in January 2012.

For the past nine weeks, the society has been gathering and presenting galleries of submissions, encouraging readers to vote. Check out the editors’ favorites or view every photo entered.

Nike recently opened a Flagship “Nike Brand Experience” location in Portland, OR.  There are tons of incredible displays in the 26,000 square foot space, one of which was released by Jordan Brand this week, the Air Jordan ‘Home Bulls’ Collection. Paying homage to the history and legacy of MJ, the collection includes every pair of Air Jordans from the Air Jordan 1 to last year’s AJ 2010. Each pair carries a similar look that features white uppers, red outsoles, red inner-liners and black laces. The entire collection is up on display at the new Nike Portland retail space, but there has been no word of a public release.

BEDWIN & THE HEARTBREAKERS Installation @ Beauty & Youth

The store-in-store concept has always been appealing to me.  Tokyo based brand, BEDWIN & THE HEARTBREAKERS, recently unveiled a new installation at Beauty & Youth United Arrows in Shibuya. On display is Bedwin’s 2011 fall/winter collection surrounded by a graffiti-inspired setting. The installation displays a number of tags on the walls of a bathroom which offers several props beside the trousers, button-down shirts, and sweaters that were included in the collection. The release for the season is titled ‘Stop Making Sense’ – likely a subtle reference to the disorderly theme of the installation.  Haven is usually a good place to check for the latest Bedwin products if you don’t live in Japan.
